The Knight Riders reached a modest 122 for seven in trying conditions, with South Africa’s Colin Ingram’s patient 25 the top score. Off-spinner was the pick of the bowlers, snaring tidy figures of two for eight in four overs.

His telling haul included the key dismissals of New Zealander Colin Munro and dangerous opener Sunil Narine. Former Black Caps captain Brendon McCullum, meanwhile, suffered a duck.

Guyana’s pursuit was hampered by the early departure of South African Cameron Delport for just two. Talented duo Shimron Hetmyer and Sherfane Rutherford gradually steered the Warriors’ chase in the right direction. Hetmyer struck an entertaining 39 to Rutherford’s complementary 30.

Pakistani Sohail Tanvir was later at hand to strike a hefty six, affording the Amazon Warriors triumph with one delivery to spare.

Spinner Khary Pierre rallied for the Knight Riders, but an important brace of breakthroughs wasn’t enough. Pierre, indeed, lacked adequate support from seamers Dwayne Bravo and Kevon Cooper.

Victorious in the first qualifier, Guyana have advanced straight to Sunday’s final. The Knight Riders will play the winner of Thursday’s eliminator – the Jamaica Tallawahs or St Kitts and Nevis Patriots – in Friday’s second qualifier.
